My verdict. If you are staying in Berlin and want to see the inside of Sanssouci without thinking about trains, slots or the Monday trap, this is the tour. Four hours from the Kurfürstendamm and back, a live guide in English and German, a bus tour of Potsdam, then the palace with fast-lane entry and the audio tour. It rates 4.7 from 1,310 reviews. What it is not is leisurely: 45 minutes in the palace and about 20 in the park is enough, and no more than enough.
What actually happens
You meet the coach at Kurfürstendamm 216, at the corner of Fasanenstraße, a short walk from Uhlandstraße U-Bahn or Zoologischer Garten S-Bahn. The drive out is about 25 km south-west. In Potsdam the guide runs a bus tour of about an hour and a half, which passes the Dutch Quarter with its 134 red-brick houses and the Russian colony Alexandrowka, with commentary in both languages. Then the palace. The tour holds the timed slot for the group, which is the whole reason I recommend it in July and August, and you go in with fast-lane entry and the audio tour of the ten rooms. That is about 45 minutes, which matches how long the enfilade takes at a normal pace. You get about 20 minutes in Sanssouci Park — enough for the terraces, the view down to the Great Fountain and Frederick’s grave on the top terrace, not enough for the Chinese House. Then back on the coach to the Kurfürstendamm.

My gripes
Twenty minutes in the park is my main complaint, and it is built into the format. The terraces alone deserve half an hour, and you will not reach the Picture Gallery next door. If that bothers you, come back another day with the day ticket and do the park properly. The other is that the palace part of the tour is the audio tour, not the live guide; that is true of every tour here, because there is no standard live guided tour for individuals inside Sanssouci.
